Valerie Lora has always been fascinated with the telling of stories. Her drive, talent and ambition have garnered her success as a host, personality, and television producer.
Raised in Newark, Lora got her first audience at church as a translator, and later learned how to work the audio/visual system. She continued that love by attending Arts High School. While there she started a TV show with her friends that recapped daily events, sporting events and more that was shown on closed circuit TV in high schools throughout the city. She knew a career in television and radio lied in her future and she was determined to pursue it.
Lora enrolled in William Paterson University in May 2004 majoring in Communications with a concentration in Television Production. She continued to hone her skills producing and hosting a hip- hop radio show on the college’s majority rock radio station. In her sophomore year, she landed an internship at Viacom’s BET and became a production assistant on Rap City and 106 & Park, where she was allowed to produce, write and edit segments and garner hands on experience. After 3 years at BET, Lora began to tour the world as part of DGI Management, expanding her skill set and gaining new experiences.
Once rooted back in the tri-state area, she began her own show on Youtube that turned into Jump Off TV's Friday Hip Hop Report online and led to her co-hosting a weekly radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Shade45. In the process she has managed to become a mother of two, while continuing to establish herself in the hip-hop culture and create new content.
Raised in the spirit of service, her heart is just as big as her ambitions has she regularly helps children in Haiti and the Dominican Republic with her sneaker program. In addition, Valerie coordinates hospital visits in order to provide the elderly with companionship and mental stimulation.
Lora has worked as a producer for MTV, Fuse, Nickelodeon, BET and other networks. Her desire to tell stories and make a mark on this world is fueled with every project she takes.
“I would love to be a Wendy Williams, meets Angie Martinez, meets Oprah,” says Lora. “I want it to be known that women can and will make a mark in the production world. I just want it to be a big mark.”
At this rate, Lora will continue to take the production realm by storm with her spunk, charm and wit. The world just has to be ready.
